Obituary as written in the Dundee, Perth and Cupar Advertiser - Friday 25th October 1839

Died, Dundee, on the 18th current, Mr Andrew Wallace, of the Royal Hotel. The death of this highly-respectable and enterprising innkeeper will regretted by a wide circle friends, to whom he was endeared by the most urbane and concilliatory manners. As a servant of the public, Mr Wallace has long enjoyed a high reputation for sterling principle and great activity business. Of this he has had many acknowledgments, and from tbe commercial travellers of Scotland in particular. By this useful class Mr Wallace was held in high esteem—his close attention to their comfort during series of years being proverbial. As citizen of Dundee, Mr Wallace, during the few years he has resided amongst us, has gained the good of all who were brought contact with him ; and his early death is deplored as that a valuable member of society, kind friend, and a most attentive host.
