Memorial Inscription (Section C.)
Erected by Margaret Spence in memory of her husband John Methven, Auctioneer, Dundee, who died 22nd April 1844 aged 56 years also two daughters who died in infancy. The above Margaret Spence died 12th October 1868 aged 82 years. Also their daughter Mary died 3rd March 1881 aged 63 years and their youngest daughter Elizabeth who died 5th April 1906 aged 80 years .

The passing of John Methven as reported in the Northern Warder and General Advertiser for the Counties of Fife, Perth and Forfar - Tuesday 23 April 1844
"Sudden Death. striking instance of the uncertainty of this life occurred on our streets yesterday afternoon. Mr John Methven, auctioneer, after visiting the Commercial Reading Room, had descended the stairs, and was in the act of turning the corner, when he suddenly fell backwards, and instantly breathed his last. The immediate cause of death is understood to have been apoplexy. He was apparently in previous good health, and had visited our own premises about hour before the melancholy event took place, when he gave his directions regarding an advertisement with his usual preciseness. Mr Methven was gentleman much respected for his correct business habits, and was patronised with a very considerable share of the business of the town in his line, has left a widow and family to mourn his loss."
